When is the minor travel authorization mandatory?−
When the minor travels outside Spain without both parents: only with one of them, with third parties, or alone. Airlines and border authorities may require it. In the EU it is not always mandatory but recommended. Outside the EU it is usually essential.
Must both parents sign?+
Yes, if both have parental authority they must consent to the trip. If one cannot attend the notary, they can previously grant general or specific notarial authorization for that trip. If there is sole custody, the custodian can decide but consent from the other is recommended.
How long does it take to obtain?+
The notarial authorization is obtained the same day of appearance before the notary. If it requires an apostille for non-EU travel, add 24-48 additional hours. Total: 24-72h depending on whether it requires an apostille.
How much does a minor travel authorization cost?+
The complete service price starts from €199, which includes full management, video conference with the notary, document preparation, and digital delivery. If an apostille is required for non-EU travel, the additional cost will be included in the quote. Request an exact quote for your case.
Does the authorization work for multiple trips or just one?+
You can request authorization for a specific trip or general authorization for multiple trips during a specific period (e.g., the whole year, summer). Specify your preference to the notary.
What happens if one parent refuses to sign?+
If there is conflict and one refuses without justified cause, the other can request judicial authorization. The judge will decide if the trip is suitable for the minor and can judicially authorize the trip substituting the parent's consent.
Must the minor be present before the notary?+
It is not mandatory but may be advisable if the minor is over 12 years old, so the notary can hear them if deemed appropriate. For young minors, their presence is not necessary.
Does the authorization need an apostille?+
For travel within the EU, generally not. For travel to non-EU countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention, yes, an apostille is required. For non-signatory countries, consular legalization may be required. Consult us for your specific destination.

It depends on the case: if the minor travels with one parent, only the other parent's authorization is needed. If the minor travels with third parties or alone, both parents must authorize it. Each signer can connect from a different city.
Is it valid for any country?+
Yes, and if the destination requires it, we issue it in two languages and arrange for the apostille.
