What is the difference between individual and legal entity certificates?−
The individual certificate identifies an individual person for their personal procedures. The legal entity certificate identifies an entity (company, association) and allows its legal representatives to act on behalf of the organization.
Who can request a company's certificate?+
Only legal representatives with sufficient registered powers (company directors, association presidents, attorneys with powers). Must be accredited through deed or registry certificate.
How long does it take to obtain?+
The complete process from notarial accreditation to having the certificate installed and working takes between 24 and 48 hours under normal conditions.
How much does the corporate digital certificate cost?+
The FNMT certificate is free. The costs are: notarial accreditation fees (€30-50) and our management fees. The certificate itself has no issuance cost.
How long is the certificate valid?+
The digital certificate for legal entities is valid for 2 years from issuance. After that time it must be renewed through a simplified process (no new notarial accreditation required in most cases).
Can I have several certificates for the same company?+
Yes, each legal representative can have their own entity certificate. It is common in companies with several directors or attorneys for each to have their own.
Does the certificate work in all browsers?+
The certificate is installed in the operating system and works in major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari). Some specific procedures may require particular configurations that we explain to you.
What happens if the legal representative changes?+
If the representative ceases, their certificate is no longer valid to act on behalf of the entity. The new representative must request a new certificate accrediting their updated appointment.
Can the certificate be used from several devices?+
Yes, you can export your certificate and import it on several computers or devices you use. We show you how to do it securely while protecting the private key.
What do I do if I lose or forget the certificate password?+
If you forget the private key password of the certificate, there is no way to recover it. You will need to revoke the lost certificate and request a new one. That is why it is important to store the password securely.
Why does my certificate application keep getting rejected?+
The most common cause is registry documentation: the FNMT requires a certificate of good standing and office issued less than 15 days prior, and many applications arrive with an expired one. The second most common cause is having the company's registry file closed due to unfiled accounts.
Can the director's personal certificate be used instead?+
No, not to act on behalf of the company: a legal entity representative certificate is required. With a personal certificate, you can only act in your own individual capacity.
Can a proxy who is not a director obtain it?+
Yes, provided their power of attorney includes sufficient authority and is registered. We review this before starting the process.
How long does it last and how is it renewed?+
Typically two years. Renewal can be done online if the certificate is still valid; if it has already expired, the entire accreditation process must be repeated. It's best not to wait until the last minute.
What should I do if the representative changes?+
Revoke the previous representative's certificate immediately and request a new one. An active certificate held by someone who no longer represents the company poses a serious risk.
Do documents signed online have the same validity as those signed in person?+
Exactly the same. Law 11/2023 recognises the full legal validity of notarial documents executed by video call with a qualified electronic signature before a registered notary.
Do I need a digital certificate?+
Yes, to sign electronically you need a digital certificate or an electronic DNI. If you do not have one, we help you obtain it quickly before your appointment, with no additional handling fee.
Can I do it from abroad?+
Yes, the notarial video call works from any country. You only need a stable connection, your valid identity document and a digital certificate.
