What is Cl@ve: Your Digital Key for Public Services in Spain

In the analog era, where online transactions are increasingly common, the need for secure and efficient personalization becomes crucial. In Spain, Cl@ve has become the digital key that opens the doors to a wide range of public services. This electronic identification system, developed by the General State Administration, allows citizens to complete online procedures securely and conveniently, without the need for travel or waiting.

How does Cl@ve work?

To obtain Cl@ve, the user must register in the system through the official website or mobile application. The registration process is simple and quick, and only requires some personal data such as DNI or NIE, date of birth and a mobile phone number.

Once registered, the user can choose between different identification methods:

Cl@ve Permanente:

Allows continuous access over time, without having to request one-time access codes. The user establishes a password that, together with their DNI or NIE, will allow them to access services on a recurring basis.

Cl@ve PIN:

This is a code-based access system that is sent to the user's mobile phone. It is designed for users who access services sporadically. It works by generating a one-time PIN code that is complemented by a security code received via SMS.

Cl@ve firma:

This refers to the use of digital certificates or advanced electronic signatures, integrated into the Cl@ve system. These allow not only the identification and authentication of the user before administration services, but also the signing of documents or procedures electronically with full legal validity.

What procedures can I do with Cl@ve?

With this combination, citizens can perform a wide variety of online procedures, such as:

  • Apply for unemployment benefits
  • File income tax returns
  • Check academic records
  • Schedule a medical appointment
  • Pay taxes
  • Process a passport application
  • Complete procedures with Social Security

Advantages of Cl@ve: Security, Convenience and More

Using Cl@ve offers multiple benefits, standing out for its adaptable security, the elimination of unnecessary travel and the free nature of the system, redefining efficiency in public administration.
